The process of lapping and polishing ceramics is essential to give each tile a smooth, shiny surface. To optimize this process, it is critical for your Company to maximize productivity and, at the same time, reduce expenses.

How to do it? In every lapping or sanding line, on every type of material or search for new surface effects, the Premier Satellite represents a very valid (and safe) alternative to Fickert.

But let's take a step back: the satellite system can be applied on all sanding machines and allows a series of end-of-line operations such as roughing, lapping, sanding and satin finishing.

What characterizes this system is its ability to generate more kinetic energy than any other system in use-thus the benefit translates into higher quality and productivity in end-of-line machining.

We can say, therefore, that the efficiency has practically doubled: the diamond resin tool rotates at a speed of about 1,500 rpm developing a very high kinetic energy, which is equivalent to two Fickert heads.

Let us now look more specifically at all the benefits of Satellite Premier.

Why is the Satellite better than the Fickert?

To date, more and more lines have converted to the use of Satellite Premier in the top 2 or 3 positions. Fickert is inexorably giving way to satellites in many Italian ceramics companies, most notably the Imola Cooperative.

Continue reading and find out why the Satellite system allows you to cut costs and maximize yield.

What is Satellite Premier?

The Satellite Premier allows for a range of processing such as lapping and polishing .

This system involves two rotary motions of the head and tool, which, together with the translatory motion of the tiles, greatly improves the uniformity and speed of removal.

Having more efficient heads gives you a huge benefit: reducing the number of those dedicated to roughing, allowing for a better finish, using finer-grained tools.

Satellite vs. Fickert: a comparison

New requirements for ceramics, which are increasingly geared toward hard grits that are difficult to work with traditional fickert, have generated the "perfect storm" on fickert.

When we thought of the Satellite, we at Premier were fully aware that thehigh speed developed by the satellite (the 1,500 revolutions the tool makes on its axis of rotation) is what really makes a difference in the process.

These revolutions are transformed into kinetic energy that can TRIPLY the cutting power compared to the "classic" Fickert, finally allowing the diamond to do its job under optimal conditions.

Then there are many other points of attention related to Satellite that you should definitely consider:

  • Thesmaller contact area than the Fickert allows the tools to penetrate every depression for a better finish. You can therefore position the tool to polish edges, high spots and low spots perfectly. The Premier tool can really get everywhere on the surface while working evenly; this is because the point of contact is minimal (about 2.5 cm) compared to the Fickert, which instead has a minimum tangency of 10 cm
  • The diamond satellite is modular, modular with several layers of Velcro or as a single block. The versatility and modularity of the tool allow it to change trim depending on the desired degree of flatness
  • For the same volume removed, finer-grained tools can be used; removing coarse-grained tools from the end of the line results in scratch-free tiles with a higher degree of gloss.

We can say that, with the Satellite, the eternal dilemma between unprocessed edge and peeling edges (removing too much glaze in the edges and making the backing appear) is solved for good and once and for all

The satellite is available with "4-hole" or "Terzago" attachment, the grit ranges from 50 to 12,000, and is available in two diameters: 130 or 150 mm.
